Now

When I took this picture, I thought that little spot where there is no shadow represents the Now. The past is behind the chain link and the future is down the road, so no point in dwelling in or worrying about them. .

Wise men have been talking about this forever it seems. No use predicting sadness or looking back in anger.

Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present. ~Marcus Aurelius Antoninus

With the past, I have nothing to do; nor with the future.  I live now.  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I tell you the past is a bucket of ashes.  ~Carl Sandburg

I never think of the future.  It comes soon enough. ~Albert Einstein

The living moment is everything.  ~D.H. Lawrence

I have realized that the past and future are real illusions, that they exist in the present,
which is what there is and all there is.
~Alan Watts

It's a very intriguing photo, and fits the tenses you describe really well. I'm pretty okay with the past; if I could just let the future alone...I mean, I know it's an illusion, but...sigh...

Sometimes it's best to be in the here and now, especially when the whence causes pain.

But why do they all have to stretch this so much? Why does everyone?

Intellectually, I agree with just about everything said here. Now, if I could just get my foot untangled from the dang fence.
